One more week of piano camp left, huzzah! Large groups of children…so over it. Give me one kid at a time and I will happily teach them. Heck, give me a piano lab full of adults and I’ll be just as happy. But too many children make me tired. I’m not cut out for this [...]

While waiting for yet another couple of cheesecakes to solidify to the point that I can turn off the oven and go to bed, I have been browsing random books on the bookshelf. Nerdy, I know. Anyway, I came across this quote from the articulate Rodney Clapp that relates to my previous post on cultural [...]
misunderstood at sonic

For those of you not blessed to be in the vicinity of a Sonic drive-up, it’s a fast food restaurant at which you pull up to a little kiosk and order your food instead of going inside to eat.
Me: I’d like a large fries, please.
Sonic guy through garbled speaker: Larrr eye?
Me: Uh, yeah.
Sonic guy: One [...]

Weeks ago, I was accused of being a “hipster” in regard to my popular music taste. I immediately resented the label, but I don’t know, maybe it’s appropriate. I braved the endless maze that is IKEA today to pick up a few items–namely, a rack for drying clothes and new comforter. (My old one is from freshman year of college, pink, and flowery. Ugh. My tastes have changed a bit since then.) Some observations:
1) People who shop at IKEA have the perverse habit [...]
the da vinci code

Here are my thoughts on The Da Vinci Code. I’ve just finished reading it this morning, after hearing all the hype about it for the last couple years. No, I haven’t seen the movie and I don’t intend to. In a nutshell, I think that it’s an entertaining but mediocre piece of fiction with interesting [...]
manipulated

Every once in a while, I stop and realize how much my life is inundated by manipulative advertising. Going shopping for groceries, turning on the radio, driving down the street, reading the newspaper….there’s no escape from it. It’s scary to think how much I don’t realize that I’m being manipulated on a daily basis to [...]
